A triathlon for people who would rather paddle

The Great Race replaces the swim with a paddle. Three- and four-person teams can split the legs; two-person tandem teammates each run or bike and then paddle together. Solo racers complete all three.

Pick the part you already know how to do

Most racers do not need to train for three sports. A runner, cyclist, and paddler can each bring one strength to the same starting line.

Run 5K

A road run from Emerson Park. On a three- or four-person relay, this can be your only leg.

Bike 10 miles

A fast out-and-back ride through the Auburn and Owasco countryside.

Paddle 2 miles

A canoe, kayak, or stand-up paddleboard leg on Owasco Lake—no swim required.

Team formats for two to four

Three- and four-person teams can assign one racer to each role. In the official two-person tandem format, each teammate runs or bikes and both paddle together. Other repeated-racer lineups are unofficial and ineligible for placement or awards.

Solo when you want all three

Experienced multisport racers can run, bike, and paddle the entire course. The format is different from a swim-bike-run triathlon, but the challenge is real.
